Primal porridge

Primal porridge

Brought to you by the gorgeous Alyse Co-cliff, holistic health coach from 'An Apple a Day'.

Nothing warms the cooler mornings better than a piping hot bowl of porridge, but like many primal converts, I thought that this was one past-time I had to say goodbye to. Stumped and looking for ways to warm my early morning starts, I got a little creative in the kitchen and voila`, my very own version of primal porridge was born. Looking for a real-food way to keep you firing on all cylinders well into the afternoon? Look no further, I guarantee this recipe will become a household favourite.

To make this recipe in under 10 minutes, you need to do a little ground work first. This means prepping or combining bulk of the porridge ingredients ahead of time. To do this, you will need the following:

  • 1 cup slivered almonds
  • 1 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup linseeds
  • 1 cup activated walnuts
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 1 cup puffed quinoa

Mix all ingredients together well and store in an air-tight glass jar on your pantry shelf. This mix will keep in the pantry for weeks if stored correctly (but I can guarantee it won’t last that long). This mix will serve 7, double the mix if you want to make extra.

Once you have done the ground work, to make the porridge is as simple as 1,2,3. To do this, you will need the following:

Primal Porridge

  • 1 cup / 100g Primal Muesli
  • 3/4 cup almond / coconut / rice milk
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of Maple syrup, Honey or Rice Malt Syrup (optional)

Personally, I don’t use the additional sweetener (I find the porridge sweet enough with the banana), but everyone is different so adjust accordingly.

Method:

THERMOMIX

  • Place all ingredients in the Thermomix. Cook for 4 minutes/Varoma/Speed 1
  • Once the porridge has finished cooking, blend together using speed 6/15 seconds
  • Top with coconut yoghurt and shredded coconut before serving immediately.

STOVE TOP

  • Pop all the ingredients in the saucepan and heat as you would normal porridge for approximately 5-8 minutes.
  • Transfer the ingredients to a food processor and blend well for 30 seconds until well combined.
  • Top with coconut yoghurt and shredded coconut before serving immediately.
